Project Overview
Large cranes operating on construction sites have significant blind spots around the vehicle, creating potential safety risks for pedestrians, workers, and nearby vehicles. In busy industrial environments, relying solely on the driver’s visual observation can make it difficult to detect people or vehicles entering these blind areas in time.
To improve operational safety and strengthen blind spot management, China Sinopec deployed a large crane blind spot warning system to provide real-time monitoring and intelligent alerts around the vehicle.
The Challenge: Blind Spot Safety for Large Cranes
Large construction cranes have a wide body and complex operating environment, resulting in multiple blind zones around the vehicle. During site operations, pedestrians or other vehicles may enter these areas without being immediately noticed by the driver.
The key requirements for the project included:
– Real-time monitoring of crane blind spots
– AI-based detection of pedestrians and vehicles
– Clear video monitoring in challenging outdoor environments
– Immediate warning when a person or vehicle enters a dangerous area
– Centralized management of safety events and video information
Our AI Blind Spot Detection Solution
To address these requirements, LOYALTY-SECU provided an integrated AI BSD (Blind Spot Detection) system designed for commercial vehicles and heavy construction equipment.
The solution mainly consists of:
AI BSD Camera + Vehicle MDVR Warning Management Terminal + Audible & Visual Alarm
1. AI BSD Camera
The AI blind spot detection camera monitors the designated blind areas around the crane and uses AI algorithms to identify pedestrians and vehicles.
When a person or vehicle enters the configured detection area, the system can generate an alert and provide real-time visual information to help the operator respond quickly.
2. Vehicle MDVR Warning Management Terminal
The vehicle MDVR serves as the central management and processing device. It integrates video monitoring, AI detection information, recording, and alarm management.
This enables safety events to be recorded and managed systematically rather than relying only on real-time observation by the driver.
3. Audible & Visual Alarm
When a potential safety risk is detected, the system activates the audible and visual alarm to immediately alert the operator.
The combination of AI detection, video monitoring, and real-time warning helps reduce the response time to potential blind spot hazards.
Project Results
After deployment, the blind spot monitoring system provided clear video images and responsive AI warning performance during crane operations.
The system helped the customer:
– Improve visibility in critical blind spot areas
– Detect pedestrians and vehicles in real time
– Provide timely audible and visual warnings
– Strengthen on-site safety management
– Reduce the potential risks associated with vehicle blind spots
The customer recognized LOYALTY-SECU’s professional technical support and service throughout the project.
Why AI Blind Spot Detection Matters for Heavy Equipment
For large cranes, excavators, mining vehicles, trucks, buses, and other heavy equipment, blind spot safety is an important part of vehicle and construction site management.
An AI-powered blind spot monitoring system can combine real-time video, pedestrian and vehicle detection, alarm functions, and video recording to provide an additional layer of protection for operators and workers.
This project demonstrates how AI BSD technology can be integrated into real-world industrial environments to support safer operation of heavy construction equipment.
